Internship File Receipt Dates

April 15 – July 1

A student can receive a maximum of 2 internship files in 1 year between these dates.

Internship Periods

The spring semester "Final Exams" start on the 1st, 10th and 20th of the month as of the end date, and end one day before the fall semester "Start of Classes" date specified in the academic calendar of the next academic year.

Internship File Delivery Dates: End of October every year

Students who come with vertical and horizontal transfer programs must submit their files by the end of October of the year they enroll.

Internship File Evaluation: End of November every year

The faculty announces the internship committee's decisions to the students by the end of that year.

 

* Internship calendar requirements are not required for students who are graduates. Evaluations are also made throughout the year.

 

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT INTERNSHIP

Is it compulsory to do an internship in Tourism Management and Travel Management and Tourism Guidance Undergraduate Programs?
Yes, it is mandatory. Students are required to do an internship to improve their skills in applying the theoretical knowledge they have learned at the faculty in the relevant sector and to gain work experience. Every student must successfully complete the internships in accordance with the provisions of these application principles in order to graduate.

If I work in any workplace with insurance, will this work be considered an internship? What are the conditions?
Yes, it counts. Students working in a workplace with insurance can present their work as an internship. For this; The student must apply to the Faculty with a petition stating that the business will carry out the insurance transactions and that in case of any problem, the student will be responsible. In order for insured work to be considered as an internship, an internet or SSI-approved insurance statement covering the period worked after the study must be approved by the company and submitted to the student affairs office.

 

 Can I do my internship abroad? What are the conditions for doing an internship abroad?
Students can do their internships abroad within the scope of Erasmus or with any organization. In order for these students' internships to be evaluated, they must obtain an internship file from the student affairs office when going abroad. The necessary fields of the internship file must be filled in and the relevant fields must be approved (with signature and stamp, if any). Students doing internship abroad must submit their internship files to the student affairs office along with photocopies of their passports. Students doing internship abroad must add their insurance and employment contract documents to the file.

 

How many days is the internship duration?
The internship period is 90 (ninety) days in total. Weekends and public holidays are counted as working days. Students who want to obtain an associate degree must also comply with all provisions of the principles and their internship period is 90 (ninety) days.

 

Is it possible to do an internship in more than one organization?
Yes, internships can be done in more than one organization, provided that the period specified above is completed. However, the internship period in a business must be at least 30 days. If the number of internship days is less than 30 days, the internship is considered invalid.

 

Does the guidance practice trip count as part of the internship period?
Provided that it is documented, the guidance practice trip is counted as part of the internship period and the minimum 30 (thirty) day rule is not required for the guidance practice trip.

When does the internship period start? Do these periods vary between domestic and international internships?
Unless otherwise stated by the Internship Commission, the internship period starts on the 1st, 10th and 20th of the month as of the end date of the spring semester "Final Exams" specified in the academic calendar published by the university for each academic year, and the academic year of the next academic year begins on the 1st, 10th and 20th of the month. The fall semester ends one day before the "Start of Classes" date specified in the calendar. These dates can be changed when necessary by the Internship Commission. However, in this case, the determined dates are announced by the Internship Commission. Students who do internships at home and abroad do their internships between the dates specified in their internship files. Applications regarding internships and insured work performed outside the dates and internship period specified in the internship file will not be evaluated.

 

Under what conditions is the internship period not required?
An internship period is not required for students who have successfully completed all the courses in their curriculum and have reached the graduation stage, but cannot complete their internship.

 

How and by whom are the qualifications of the institutions to be interned determined?
The qualifications of the institutions where the internship will be performed and the content of the internship are determined by the Faculty Internship Commission in accordance with the educational goals of the Faculty and the purpose of the internship. Students can do internships in businesses in the country or abroad that meet the features listed below and, when necessary, additional features determined by the internship commission.

What are the characteristics of the businesses where students of the Department of Tourism Management will intern?
Students studying in the Department of Tourism Management, operating in the tourism sector domestically/abroad;

In 4 and 5 star hotel establishments and first class holiday villages,
In cruise lines,
In accommodation establishments operating abroad that are deemed appropriate by the internship commission,
In businesses with which a protocol is made by the University and/or Faculty,
They can do internships in other businesses approved by the internship commission.
What are the characteristics of the businesses where Travel Management and Tourism Guidance students will intern?
Students studying in the Department of Travel Management and Tourism Guidance, operating in the tourism sector domestically/abroad;

*Group A travel agencies and tour operators,
*In national or international airline companies and ticketing offices,
*Congress and fair centers,
*In blue flag marina businesses and cruise line businesses,
*In travel companies operating abroad that are deemed appropriate by the internship commission,
*In businesses with which a protocol has been made by the University and/or Faculty,
*They can do internships in other businesses approved by the internship commission.
*When can students apply for an internship? How does the application process work?
*Students can apply for internship after completing the second semester of the undergraduate program in which they are registered at the faculty. When students apply for internship;

          a. They receive an internship acceptance letter from the workplace where they will do their internship, stating the name, full address and nature of the workplace.

          b. They receive a photocopy of the Tourism Enterprise or Tourism Investment Certificate of the business where they will do their internship.

          c. Along with the form, they receive a letter from the Social Security Institution stating whether they are subject to general health insurance in accordance with Law No. 5510 or whether they have health insurance as a dependent.

          D. Students apply to the Faculty Dean's Office between 15 April - 1 July by filling out the application form obtained from the Faculty Student Affairs, together with the additional documents specified in the above articles and other additional documents requested when necessary. A student can receive a maximum of 2 (two) internship files during the application period.

          to. Students who want to do an internship abroad must certify the company they will work in. In order for the work of students working abroad to be counted as internships, the place of work must be one of the business types specified in the internship application principles. The Internship Commission is authorized to decide whether the place of employment falls within the scope of one of these business types.

           f. Work accident and occupational disease insurance premiums are paid by the University during the students' internship period. In order to complete the insurance procedures, students are obliged to submit all documents required for application to the student affairs office at least 10 (ten) days before the start date of the internship. No insurance premium is paid for students who will voluntarily do an internship abroad and students who are insured employees.

          g. If the student receives a report during his internship, he must submit his report to the faculty and the business within 3 (three) business days. In case of failure to notify, all legal liability belongs to the student.

          h. Students are personally responsible for delivering their internship documents to the company and the Faculty on time before and after the internship.

Are there any rules that students must follow during the internship, and if so, what are these rules? How is internship evaluation done?

Students must comply with the rules of the internship site during the internship. In internship evaluation; intern's absenteeism, violation of workplace and student disciplinary rules, preparation of false documents regarding the internship, etc. In such cases, the provisions of the "Higher Education Institutions Student Disciplinary Regulations" apply. Students must comply with the working principles, work conditions, rules regarding discipline and occupational safety of the institution where they do their internship. Students cannot give information to others about the business they work for. Business officials terminate the internship of students who act otherwise and report the situation to the Dean's Office. In this case, students must repeat their internship.

Is there a requirement to continue the internship?
Yes, attendance at the internship is mandatory. Students receive information about their health reports, natural disasters, family issues, etc. during their internship. They are considered excused for situations where the workplace official at the place of internship gives written permission for reasons. However, these days cannot exceed 10% of the internship period.

Are public and weekend holidays included in the internship period?
Yes, public and weekend holidays are included in the internship period.

What should students do if they request to change their internship location for any reason?
Students who request to change their internship location for any reason must apply to the Internship Commission with a petition and receive approval from the Internship Commission. The internship of students who change businesses or leave the internship site without the approval of the Internship Commission will be deemed completely invalid. The Chairman and/or members of the Internship Commission are authorized to change the companies where the internship takes place and to supervise the students during the internship.

What should a student who needs to leave the internship site before the specified time do?
If the intern students cannot complete the internship for any reason, the business officer applies to the Dean's Office with a petition within three days to complete the insurance exit procedures. It is the student's responsibility to follow up the insurance exit procedures. Action will be taken in accordance with the "Higher Education Institutions Student Disciplinary Regulations" on students who leave the internship site before the specified time but do not inform the Dean's Office.

What is the deadline for students who complete their internship to submit their internship documents?
After completing their internship, students submit their internship documents to the Faculty student affairs office by the end of October every year. Students who have successfully completed all the courses in their curriculum and have reached the graduation stage but cannot complete their internship can submit their documents within the year they complete their internship.

How long is the evaluation and validity period of internship documents?
Internship documents are evaluated only during the year in which the internship is performed. It is not valid for subsequent years.

Who evaluates and finalizes internship documents?
The Internship Commission meets by the end of November, makes the necessary evaluations regarding the internship documents submitted to the student affairs office, and reports the report to be prepared as a result of the evaluation to the Faculty Dean's Office by the end of November. The faculty announces the internship committee's decisions to the students by the end of that year. Students who have missing documents or incorrect information can correct their deficiencies or object to the evaluation with a petition within 15 days from the date of announcement. Objections are evaluated and finalized by the Internship Commission.

How are the internship documents of students who are about to graduate evaluated?
The internship documents of the students who have successfully completed all the courses in the curriculum and who have reached the graduation stage are evaluated and decided early by the internship commission in an additional meeting, if necessary.

What are the conditions required for students' internships to be valid?
Requirements for students' internship to be valid:

      a. For internships carried out domestically, the internship site must comply with the internship application principles (a photocopy of the Tourism Enterprise or Tourism Investment Certificate will be added to the internship file),

       b. The internship evaluation form must be filled out and approved by the internship site manager,

       c. The internship documents submitted by the student at the end of the internship must be accepted by the internship commission,

       D. The evaluation result to be made by the internship commission is found to be "Successful".

How is internship evaluation announced?
If the above-mentioned issues are met, those who are successful in the evaluation of the internships are declared as "Satisfactory" and those who fail are declared as "Insufficient". The duration of the internships deemed sufficient in days is stated in the prepared report. Insufficient internships are repeated.

What is the internship obligation of students whose internships are completely, partially rejected or cancelled?
Students whose internship is completely, partially rejected or canceled are obliged to complete their internship by the rejected day.

Can students who have successfully completed their compulsory internship do the internship again?
Students who have successfully completed their compulsory internship can optionally do another internship. Students who wish to do an optional internship again are responsible for paying work accident and occupational disease insurance premiums, either on themselves or the company where they do their internship.

Are intern students supervised during the internship?
When necessary, the working conditions of intern students are checked on-site by faculty members assigned by the Faculty Dean's Office and a report is reported to the Faculty Dean's Office.

Is there an internship exemption for students who register to the Faculty through horizontal or vertical transfer?
Every student who registers to the Faculty through horizontal or vertical transfer is obliged to comply with the internship application principles. If students request with a petition within the internship document submission period of the academic year in which they registered that they have done their internship at their previous school in accordance with the principles specified in these application principles and document this situation (with the internship application principles, internship acceptance documents and workplace documents they will receive from the school they come from), they will be presented to the internship commission. The students' situation is evaluated and the duration of their internship may be taken into account.
